KTH is one of Europe's leading technical universities and an important arena for knowledge development. As Sweden's largest university of technical research and education, we gather students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers both natural sciences and all branches of technology as well as architecture, industrial economics, social planning, technical history and philosophy.

We are looking for a PhD student at the Department of Strategic Sustainability Studies, which will work with researchers in the field of sustainable urban development. The project has two starting points: the densification of cities and the need for multifunctional land use and the need for collaborative tools to address sustainability challenges. The project is widely interdisciplinary, which means that it is carried out in close collaboration with a variety of different actors and within several scientific disciplines . With denser cities, increasingly high demands are being made on land that is not urbanized, it will meet many different needs and in a resilient manner over time. One of the purposes of the project is to develop and test frameworks, strategies and methods for planning, designing and managing multi-functional sites over time. What features can be combined,

Sustainability challenges today span multiple scales in time and space and require a multitude of competencies in collaboration. Both in research and practice, we are talking more and more about the need for synergies between sectors, levels, professions and between different spheres of knowledge. At the same time, there are many examples of where this collaboration does not work and there is a great need for knowledge about tools for good collaboration. What concepts and methods are used, why and how do they work? The project is linked to the research conducted in Just Urban Green, where focus is multifunctional green structures in relation to sustainable urban development.
